Finally, I am so glad to write this post, because the new Airy Purple theme will be used in my site. But there’s is one thing important is waiting Vlad Gerasimov’s permission. Because I use a cute bird from his fantastic wallpaper.And really, Vlad Gerasimov is an amazing designer. I hope everyone who reads this post could go to his site and enjoy his beautiful works.
Hoping Vlad Gerasimov could reply my email tomorrow.

And also, this theme is a redesigned version of the Dark WP Theme by iLEMONed. I have redesigned almost all the pictures and changed some of his code, so, thank you very much iLEMONed.

There are some cute scripts I found from internet, and I built (or will build) them in this theme.

1. Ndesign-Studio provided a cute Fisheye Dock Menu scripts.

This code is in CSS and Javascript. It can I have tested on IE 6, IE 7, Opera 9.27, Firefox 2, and Safari 3.1.1. As Nick La said, there are some issues in Safari 2, however, Safari 3 has been available long time ago. It can be smoothly execute in Safari 3.

2. Mootools Javascript Tooltips
This scripts give us a mouse hover description, that is cool, right. There’s also some good stuff in that site, maybe you can found what you want.

There are lots of cool scripts I got, but I can’t remember from where I found. I will share theme later.

Well, actually, I hope this theme will be used as soon as possible, there’s a lot of cool stuff I haven’t added in. For example, AJAX Tag bar autochange.

I just installed a Gallery2 in this hosting and I just wanted to install a test gallery in my local Mac for testing and developing themes, but unfortunately, The PHP5 pre-installed in Leopard has not GD library and gettext enabled (or means installed). The tutorial of installation of GD library for Leopard can be found in Alex’s site: Adding the GD Extension to PHP5 on OS X Server 10.5.x. And next, I’ll tell you how to enable gettext extension for leopard’s PHP5.

Well… let’s go!

1.Requirements

You have made a backup of your system.

You have the latest version of Apple’s Developer Tools (XCode 3.0 or higher for 10.5.x) installed. Dev Tools are available on your Server DVD and as a free download from Apple’s Developer Connection.

X11 is installed (part of standard OS X Server install unless you deselect it)

X11 SDK is installed (available on your OS X Developer Tools Disc or Image and part of the standard installation. This is different from the X11 client that comes with OS X.)

You do have a backup

You are running 10.5.x

You have not manually installed (or updated) anything related to gettext, if you have, you must know how to adapt these instructions to the changes you made.

2. Getting gettext and Installing gettext-runtime.
Open your Terminal and type:
For 32-bit :

mkdir -p /SourceCache
cd /SourceCache
curl -O ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gettext/gettext-0.17.tar.gz
tar xzpf gettext-0.17.tar.gz
cd /SourceCache/gettext-0.17/gettext-runtime
./configure
sudo make
sudo make install

For 64-bit :

mkdir -p /SourceCache
cd /SourceCache
curl -O ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gettext/gettext-0.17.tar.gz
tar xzpf gettext-0.17.tar.gz
cd /SourceCache/gettext-0.17/gettext-runtime
MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET=10.5 CFLAGS="-arch ppc -arch ppc64 -arch i386 -arch x86_64 -g -Os -pipe -no-cpp-precomp" CCFLAGS="-arch ppc -arch ppc64 -arch i386 -arch x86_64 -g -Os -pipe" CXXFLAGS="-arch ppc -arch ppc64 -arch i386 -arch x86_64 -g -Os -pipe" LDFLAGS="-arch ppc -arch ppc64 -arch i386 -arch x86_64 -bind_at_load" ./configure --enable-shared
sudo make
sudo make install

Now, libintl.h has been installed in your /usr/local/include. gettext cannot be installed if we have not libintl.h located in our Mac.

3. Installation of gettext
Download PHP-5.2.4 (or php-5.2.5) source code in PHP official site. or you can download it by using your Terminal.

cd /SourceCache
curl -O http://www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource/10.5/apache_mod_php-43/php-5.2.4.tar.bz2
tar xjf php-5.2.4.tar.bz2
cd /SourceCache/php-5.2.4/ext/gettext
sudo phpize

Then,For 32-bit:

./configure
sudo make
sudo make install

For 64-bit use:

MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET=10.5 CFLAGS="-arch ppc -arch ppc64 -arch i386 -arch x86_64 -g -Os -pipe -no-cpp-precomp" CCFLAGS="-arch ppc -arch ppc64 -arch i386 -arch x86_64 -g -Os -pipe" CXXFLAGS="-arch ppc -arch ppc64 -arch i386 -arch x86_64 -g -Os -pipe" LDFLAGS="-arch ppc -arch ppc64 -arch i386 -arch x86_64 -bind_at_load" ./configure
sudo make
sudo make install

4. Integration of gettext and PHP
Go to /etc and edit php.ini with your favorite editor (I like BBEdit). and add this line:

extension=gettext.so

and search this line in php.ini (VERY IMPORTANT)

extension_dir = "./"

Disable this line if this line is uncommented, just add a semicolon in front of this line.

5. Testing…
Create a phptest.php file with the following code:

<?php
phpinfo();
?>

and save it in /Library/WebServer/Documents.
then, restart Apache and test
Open System Preference → Sharing and check the “web sharing” option
and visit http://127.0.0.1/phptest.php

Bravo!!!!!!!!

If you get this, you get through, well, good luck!

Thank you ever so much Alex, for pointing some inaccuracies of my post. And thank you for provide such ever an accurate and great tutorial for us.

As Alex released a really perfect tutorial for helping us to adding the GD Extension to PHP5 on OS X Server 10.5.x. I was deleted my tutorial 2 weeks ago because I don’t think my tutorial is useful anymore. And Alex is really conscientious! He has updated his tutorial again, but he seems forgot something(i’m not sure), so I write a “how to” again, any way, most of I write following is a copy of his, so, thank him again for giving us such a great stuff.

OK, So let’s get going:

1.Requirements

You have made a backup of your system.

You have the latest version of Apple’s Developer Tools (XCode 3.0 or higher for 10.5.x) installed. Dev Tools are available on your Server DVD and as a free download from Apple’s Developer Connection.

X11 is installed (part of standard OS X Server install unless you deselect it)

X11 SDK is installed (available on your OS X Developer Tools Disc or Image and part of the standard installation. This is different from the X11 client that comes with OS X.)

You do have a backup

You are running 10.5.x

You have not manually updated anything related to GD, libpng, libjpeg and freetype so far (if you have, you must know how to adapt these instructions to the changes you made).

2. Getting and installing libjpeg

2.1 Create a temporary folder named SourceCache in your Macintosh HD

2.2 Download libjpeg and extract it to “SourceCache” folder.

2.3 Open your Terminal
Make sure you are logged in as root.
(Optional: If you haven’t enabled root user yet, open “Directory Utility.app” in /Applications/Utilities, and choose “Edit” option → “Enable Root User” and then, set a root password.
And Open “Terminal.app” in /Applications/Utilities, type “su” and password to login as root.)

Type:

cd /SourceCache/jpeg-6b
cp /usr/share/libtool/config.sub .
cp /usr/share/libtool/config.guess .

For 32-bit use:

./configure --enable-shared

For 64-bit use:

MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET=10.5 CFLAGS="-arch ppc -arch ppc64 -arch i386 -arch x86_64 -g -Os -pipe -no-cpp-precomp" CCFLAGS="-arch ppc -arch ppc64 -arch i386 -arch x86_64 -g -Os -pipe" CXXFLAGS="-arch ppc -arch ppc64 -arch i386 -arch x86_64 -g -Os -pipe" LDFLAGS="-arch ppc -arch ppc64 -arch i386 -arch x86_64 -bind_at_load" ./configure --enable-shared

and type this to install:

make
mkdir -p /usr/local/include
mkdir -p /usr/local/bin
mkdir -p /usr/local/lib
mkdir -p /usr/local/man/man1
make install

3. Getting and installing the GD Graphics Library extension

3.1 Download PHP source and extract it. (php-5.2.4 is recommended, because that is the same version with the one pre-installed in Leopard.) and copy the extracted folder to “SourceCache” folder.

3.2 Install GD library

type:

cd /SourceCache/php-5.2.4/ext/gd
phpize

For 32-bit use:

./configure --with-zlib-dir=/usr --with-jpeg-dir=/usr/local/lib --with-png-dir=/usr/X11R6 --with-freetype-dir=/usr/X11R6 --with-xpm-dir=/usr/X11R6

For 64-bit use:

MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET=10.5 CFLAGS="-arch ppc -arch ppc64 -arch i386 -arch x86_64 -g -Os -pipe -no-cpp-precomp" CCFLAGS="-arch ppc -arch ppc64 -arch i386 -arch x86_64 -g -Os -pipe" CXXFLAGS="-arch ppc -arch ppc64 -arch i386 -arch x86_64 -g -Os -pipe" LDFLAGS="-arch ppc -arch ppc64 -arch i386 -arch x86_64 -bind_at_load" ./configure --with-zlib-dir=/usr --with-jpeg-dir=/usr/local/lib --with-png-dir=/usr/X11R6 --with-freetype-dir=/usr/X11R6 --with-xpm-dir=/usr/X11R6

and then, type:

make
make install

4. GD extension integration

4.1 Modification of your php.ini file
(Please note: Apple’s stock server installation does not come with a “php.ini” file but “php.ini.default”)
If you don’t have a “php.ini” file in /etc, just rename “php.ini.default” to be “php.ini” (Administrator password required)
Add this line in php.ini file

extension=gd.so

and search this line in php.ini (VERY IMPORTANT)

extension_dir = "./"

DISABLE IT BY ADDING A SEMICOLON (;) IN FRONT OF THIS LINE AND SAVE CHANGE.
4.2 Edit apache2 configuration file
Open httpd.conf in /etc/apache2 and search “php5_module”
Enable it by deleting the “#” and save change.
4.3 Create a phptest.php file with the code following:

<?php
phpinfo();
?>

and locate in /Library/WebServer/Documents.
4.4 Restart Apache and test
Open System Preference → Sharing and check the “web sharing” option
and visit http://127.0.0.1/phptest.php

If you get this, you get through, well, good luck!
And yesterday, I found my space was added in a girl’s friends list without rhyme or reason, although I am really honored to be one of her friends, nevertheless I am bemused why I didn’t receive any message. And then, I check all of the settings about permissions, but I got no unusual option.

I have to admit I am not a whiz at MSN spaces, but at least I think MSN space is not a perfect stuff for newbies like me. luckily, I have lots of choices, wordpress is not bad.

Anyway, I need to thank microsoft, cause I got a friend.

Many people (newbies and advanced users) don’t like the re-built version of Apache and PHP on Mac OS X 10.4 because of hundreds of raisons: PHP4 will not be continued anymore; A lot of Libraries and Modules were not installed on the re-built PHP 4.4, for example, GD image Library; The re-built Apache and PHP was not installed as default, so we can’t find the dictionaries and configurations facilely…

Well, anyone that has been wishing to switch Apache2 and PHP5 on your mac, that’s the time to do this:

Requirement and Environment:

Mac OS X 10.4.10 Tiger

Apache 2.2.6

PHP 5.2.4

You must have a C compiler engine and gcc. That means you have to install Apple Xcode 2.4 (I don’t know if Xcode 2.3 runs well on Tiger, so 2.3 version is unrecommended ). You can download Apple Xcode 2.4 in Apple Developer Connection or find it in your Mac OS X DVD.

1. Download Apache2
First step, go to Apache’s offical website download Apache-2.2.6.tar.gz and unzip it ( Apache-2.2.6 is the highest version so far as known ).

2.Build and install Apache2
Open you Terminal and run the following line to build and install it.

％ cd /the/path/you/uncompressed/httpd-2.2.6
％ sudo ./configure \
％ --prefix=/usr/local/apache2 \
％ --enable-module=most \
％ --enable-shared=max
％ sudo make
％ sudo make install

3.Building and installing PHP5 for Apache2
—- 3.1 Downloading PHP5
Go to The official website of PHP and download the last version of PHP (php-5.2.4 currently is the last version).

—- 3.2 Download libraries you want to enable ( optional but highly recommended, please read. ).

——– 3.2.1 Installing libjpeg and libpng
The official php documentation points out that GD library is completely in the php-5.2.4 package, and that’s right, but you cannot fully install GD support without libjpeg and libpng. You can also download and install the libjpeg and libpng by using binaries installer for Mac OS X, check here!

Double click the package you have downloaded (binaries package) to install. the libjpeg and libpng will be installed in “/usr/local/lib”

——– 3.2.2 installing and using fink (optional)
Some tutorials said that you can install libjepg and libpng by using fink, but as I know, there’s no libpng in fink’s libraries index, but you can use it to install some libraries useful , for example FreeType 2.

Download the Fink binary package and double click to install. Fink will be install in “/sw” dictionary.
Open your Terminal and type:

% sudo fink install libjpeg // libjpeg is what you want to install

—- 3.3 Building & Installing PHP5
Uncompress php-5.2.4.tar.gz. and type:

% cd /path/to/php-5.2.4/
% ./configure \
% --prefix=/usr/local/php5 \
% --with-zlib \
% --with-xml \
% --with-ldap=/usr \
% --enable-cli \
% --with-zlib-dir=/usr \
% --enable-exif \
% --enable-ftp \
% --enable-mbstring \
% --enable-mbregex \
% --enable-dbx \
% --enable-sockets \
% --with-iodbc=/usr \
% --with-curl=/usr \
% --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql \ (optional, required MySQL)
% --with-gd \ (optional, requires jpeg + png)
% --with-jpeg-dir=/usr/local \ (optional)
% --with-png-dir=/usr/local \ (optional)
% --with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs
% sudo make
% sudo make install

4. Configuring Apache
—- 4.1 Add php5 module for apache
We just installed Apache2 in “/usr/local/Apache2″. So, open “/usr/local/Apache2/conf” and edit the file httpd.conf. Make sure to use a flat text editor like BBEdit or Pico in the command line. Add these lines to your httpd.conf

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps
DirectoryIndex index.html index.php

Save file httpd.conf. (type you password if necessary)

—-4.2 Testing apache and php
Use you text editor to create a *.php file named test.php with the code:

<?php
phpinfo();
?>

copy test.php file to “/usr/local/apache2/htdocs” dictionary and start apache server:

sudo /apache2/bin/apachectl start

to stop

sudo /apache2/bin/apachectl stop

OK, hoping every step goes well and this acticle can help you…
